No matter just how much success the digital game market garners, boxed retail sales are still important. Good thing, then, that Battlezone, the upcoming PlayStation VR game is getting one.
At least, in the United Kingdom.
This is a launch title from Rebellion, and the studio has confirmed that this is one of the select few PlayStation VR title that will receive both a physical and digital release.
“2016 is the year of VR, and we are committed to providing a full range of the best and most innovative experiences for PlayStation VR at launch.
We have been working with a number of independent studios to bring their creative visions to life, and are delighted to be partnering with Rebellion to bring the classic Battlezone franchise to PlayStation VR.”
Rebellion co-founder Jason Kingsley added:
“We are delighted Rebellion can work with PlayStation to give Battlezone a boxed, retail release. We’re extremely proud of Battlezone; it’s a title that helps to show just how powerful and transformative an experience VR can be.
With help from our friends at PlayStation, Battlezone will have an even broader reach than we could have imagined. Right from the earliest days of Project Morpheus they’ve played a huge part in supporting independent VR games development and worked closely with our team to deliver the kind of complete VR gameplay experience players have been calling out for.”
The game has been in development for quite some time now, and is part of the popular Battlezone franchise that has been going strong since 1980.
This latest title, built for virtual reality, is also getting a PC release on Oculus, but is coming first to the PlayStation 4 on the PlayStation VR, with availability set for October 13, 2016.
